‘Oceanic feeling’ was coined by Romain Rolland in his response to Freud’s ‘Future of an Illusion’ (1927), to express “a sensation of ‘eternity’, a feeling as of something limitless, unbounded”, a “feeling of an insoluble bond, of being one with the external world as a whole” … “ a spontaneous religious feeling “ … experienced by mystics and also himself. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceanic_feeling
My experiences of heartnosis took me to a space that was alien to this world. For me the “external world” is hideous; the notion of oneness with it is repugnant; I expect it would be so to all Gnostics.
In Freud’s view the ‘oceanic feeling’ is “ a fragmentary vestige of a kind of consciousness possessed by an infant who has not yet differentiated itself from other people and things. “
