If you’re struggling to find purpose in life, you might be one of those who feels lighter from reading this : there are persons who’ve had a taste of a realm outside of the scheme we inhabit, a realm that is unimaginably wonderful. Glowingly evident in such experiences is that within the terms of the life that impresses itself on us, there is no purpose.
I was born with certainty that the prosperity model of life harbours no meaning … but I was at least sixty before I saw this. I have had two experiences in which I was lifted clear of every preoccupation including mortality, my heart yawning open … an extraordinary feeling, free of every trace of the scheme I dwell in.
All day I think about it
Then at night I say it
Where did I come from
And what should I do here
I have no idea
My soul is in another place
I’m sure
And I have every intention
to end up there
This drunkenness
It began in some other tavern
When I return to that place
I’ll be completely sober
Meantime, I’m like a bird
on another continent
Sitting in this cage
The day is coming
